Sustainability-Forward Event Design: Beyond the Recycling Bin

Real sustainable events require rethinking vendors, materials, and logistics from the ground up. Here's our framework.

Putting a recycling bin next to the trash isn't a sustainability strategy. Real sustainable event design requires rethinking every decision — from venue selection to catering to materials to logistics — through a lens of environmental impact. Here's the framework we use.

Start with the Venue

The venue is the biggest lever in sustainable event design. A venue with renewable energy, good public transit access, and existing AV infrastructure eliminates a huge portion of an event's carbon footprint before you've made any other decision. We always start here.

Rethink Materials

Single-use printed materials, plastic signage, and disposable branded items are the most visible sustainability failures at events. We design for reuse and longevity: modular signage systems, digital collateral, and branded items that attendees will actually keep and use.

Vendor Selection Matters

Your sustainability is only as good as your supply chain. We vet vendors on their own environmental practices — catering partners who source locally, production suppliers who use water-based inks, logistics partners who optimize routes. It adds complexity to procurement but it's the only way to make sustainability claims credible.

Measure and Report

Sustainable events should be measurable. We track waste diversion rates, carbon estimates, and material reuse across every event we produce. This data informs the next event and gives clients something concrete to communicate to their stakeholders.
